EMILY’S STORY
Following a harrowing stroke in 2012, Emily was placed on life support. During this time, her husband was told she would never walk, talk, read, or write again. Defying all odds, Emily showed extraordinary grit and determination. She endured a year of gruelling physical rehabilitation before going on to achieve a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management and a Graduate Certificate in Disability Policy and Practice in Australia.
From this adversity — and her own lived experience of the lack of accessible housing that made it difficult for her to be discharged home safely — Emily and her husband transformed their pain into purpose. Together, they founded BET Group Global, now the fastest-growing and most innovative disability housing service provider in Australia. She is also the founder of the BET Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women and people with disabilities across Australia and Kenya.
