ABOUT THE BOOK
ABOUT
THE BOOK
From the moment she was born, Emily had to learn how to fight.
Emily was raised in a community rich in spirit and generosity, despite a lack of personal wealth. Shunned from her family clan due to the circumstances of her mother’s pregnancy, and rejected by her father, her mother and grandmother took it upon themselves to raise her in a nearby community, Nakuru.
At age 37, Emily’s life was shattered in the wake of a stroke that left her paralysed, unable to communicate or read.
At this time, her world transformed once again, as she gained a new perspective that would go on to reshape every aspect of her daily life – realizing the work still required to improve disability care.
When recovery seemed impossible, Emily overcame improbable odds through a year of intensive physical therapy. A fighting spirit, she immediately leapt into full time studies to achieve her MBA, seeking to empower people living with disability with her message – We should not allow people, whether deliberately or intentionally, to treat us as babies.
